Zego the Scar is the first book in the Chronicles of the Scarred, a series based on Brian Jaques’ Redwall series.  It follows the adventures of a squirrel named Zego, and as you may have guessed, he has a scar.  The book begins at the Battle of Marshank, when Laterose of Noonvale is mortally wounded by Badrang the Tyrant.  Zego lost his parents and his cousin, Felldoh, to Badrang, an evil stoat who enslaved him.  Zego has to choose between killing Badrang or saving Rose.  He decides to save Rose, and never has cause to regret it.  Zego promises to return her to her family in Noonvale, and they begin the journey to her home.  Along the way, of course, he begins to love her.  After returning her to her home, Zego’s cousin, Felldoh, along with a mysterious badger named Mortebanai, appear to him in a vision, telling him to go on a quest with Rose and some of his friends to bring Felldoh back to life.  Will he succeed?  You must read the book to find out.
